Homelessness
Homelessness is a complex social issue. In addition to the extreme stress people feel when they have no place to go, homelessness also comes with an enormous community cost. Emergency shelters and temporary housing are critical for those experiencing a housing crisis but are an incredibly high-cost form of intervention. When people experience unsheltered homelessness, large sums of taxpayer dollars are spent on response by EMS/ambulances, firefighters, emergency room visits, police intervention, detention, cleaning requirements, and more. Hero Barracks desires to mitigate some of these public costs and rapidly shelter individuals and small families in need.
How Can You Help
There are a number of ways you can help! Now that we have our IRS nonprofit charitable organizational status, we're ready to accept donations, grants, land, building materials and complete housing units. Once our campus is constructed with an HQ Building (office space, large meeting / recreation room, smaller meeting room, and potentially a few over-night bedrooms), we also hope to be able to accept donations of food and clothes.

Sterling's Can Drive
Once Hero Barracks formed and Sterling understood what our purpose was, he decided he wanted to help as well!
How You CAN Help Him
Sterling started an aluminum can drive to raise funds. He (with his Dad; or hisMom in her truck, aka "The Beast") will come pick-up any cans you collect. If you're a frequent collector or a small business, like a Bar Pub, Convenience Store or Veteran / Social Organization with a service area, we'll even provide you with a labeled collection / recycle bin with information print-outs about Hero Barracks to post by the bins. We'll also haul any straight scrap metal you may have like: aluminum and stainless steel.
A new way to Help
Besides Sterling's Recycle Bins, we found another way to help him on his journey. Some restaurants and bars were concerned that having cans in the bins with some soda still in them, might attract pests like fruit flys. We brainstormed for a while and decided to come with a viable althernative. In the past, we found there was hoax going on for a few years that many that many people believed in; something to the effect, that for every pull tab donated, someone could get 15 minutes of free dialysis. While this was untrue, we found that the Ronald McDonald House still encourages youth to collect pull tabs. A whole aluminum can is worth more than the top tab, but that tab is more dense than anyother part of the can, and it is much more sanitary than the whole can, as it doesn't hold any residual soda. So, if you see this jar, please pop a top, and drop it in!
Sterling's goal is to raise enough money to buy the first "Tiny House" from Amazon for our upcoming main campus. That's a pretty lofty goal, as the total price is about $9,500. For a rough estimate using current pricing, each can is worth just about ONE CENT! So, he needs to collect roughly 760,000 cans! A tall order, but he's up to the task. As of 5/31/2024 he's raised 19% of his goal:
Sterling's Videos
Sterling has taken to becoming an Internet "Influencer" and has started a video series to promote Hero Barracks and his fundraising efforts. You can check out his videos on YouTube and by clicking the links below, or you can check out his YouTube channel by clicking STERONIMO!
Sterling's Fun Videos
We're working hard to help Veterans and First Responders, but we also try to find time for fun and uplifting video clips:

We are also building a roster of folks interested in becoming members and volunteers who are willing to donate their time and expertise. Please consider joining the team and let us know what you have to offer. We look forward to hearing from you!
